Day 33 – After the Bombs
“Computer.” Bing. “New journal entry.” What do you want to say? “ISRO Commander Ansu Kapoor. Russian Botanist Boris Sokolov has decided to undermine and break an agreement for rationing our resources. He took it upon himself to steal water from our collective pool for his own selfish cause. I am frustrated beyond words and even lost control of my temper. I yelled at the thief and probably burned a bridge that I do not care for. I will not have bridges with someone who ignores and disrespects me. I will now, personally, direct and inventory the rations for the crew. I will not allow the importance and symbolism of this space station to be compromised by selfishness.”
Boris enters the mess hall module and begins to look for some breakfast. Ansu floats in and says, “What would you like for breakfast?” “What?” “For breakfast, what do you want?” “I’m not sure yet. I’m looking.” “Tell me and I can get it for you.” “Get it for me?” “Yes.” “What do you mean? Did you move the food?” “Yes.” “Why? Why would you do that?” “So, no one takes advantage and more than they need behind our backs.” “Where did you move it?” “Don’t worry about. It’s safe.” “Is it behind you?” “Don’t worry about it.” Boris floats over by Ansu but Commander quickly cuts him off. Boris sees all the boxes of food. “You moved all the food into Leonardo?!” “I said, don’t worry about it.” “What gives you the right?” “You did. When you stole our collective water supply.” “I did not steal anything.” “Then what do you call taking something that is not yours?” Boris rolls his eyes and tries to squeeze by him. “No!” Ansu pushes him away. “You are not the gatekeeper of our food!” “I didn’t want to be!” “Move! I am getting some food!” “No, you’re not!” Again, Ansu pushes him back. “Get out of my way!” “Make me!” “Fine!” Boris lunges at Ansu, wrapping him up. The two astronauts swirl around the module bumping into everything as they trade blows back and forth. They knock over computer systems and other important instruments. As debris tumbles through the air, Hoshi enters the module. “What the hell! Stop! Stop!” She hurries over and tries desperately to separate the two men. “Stop! Stop!” Ansu hits Boris in the nose, breaking it and sending blood into the air. A long strain of blood swim like a worm then breaks off into small, tiny droplets that splash ever so gently against the module and debris. Boris sinks down to the bottom of the module holding his nose. Hoshi quickly pushes herself between them. “Stop it! Stop it! QUIT!” Her scream echoes throughout the station and everything seems to halt. “What the fuck are you doing?! We don’t fight! Astronauts don’t fight!” Ansu returns to his module and Boris to his. While Hoshi, disappointed and amazed at what just transpired, cleans the mess hall.
